Welcome to the United Church of Sun City

Alan Paulson, Minister of Music, brings over 40 years of successful music director experience in Christian Churches, public schools, performance choirs and community colleges to our Church. Alan earned his Masters in Choral Music Conducting at ASU and continues expanding his trade by taking courses to maintain his certifications. He joined UCSC as a soloist in 2019 and became Minister of Music in September 2020.

We have talented soloists who sing with the choir and perform special music all year long:

Beverly Fletcher, Accompanist/Soloist, started at UCSC Jan. 2010. She grew up in a musical family, traveling, singing and giving sacred music programs with her mother, brother, and sister.  She started playing piano at age 5 and the organ at age 12. Ms. Fletcher holds two distinctions from the Royal Schools of Music in pianoforte and pianoforte duet, a Bachelor's degree in piano and organ performance, and a Master's degree in organ and voice performance.  Ms. Fletcher is a vocal and keyboard coach, specializing in the "vocally challenged", -those who think they can't sing. She began her teaching career in Scottsdale, AZ in 1965. She has been organist/choir director for a number of churches in the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas, and also pianist at Temple Chai in Scottsdale.  For several years she sang with the ASU Choral Union. She feels singing is the greatest anti-depressant around, and her motto is "create beauty and love people." Above all, thanks to God, giver of every perfect gift to whose glory every performance is dedicated.

Kira Funk is an ariZoni nominated and NYA winning actress and make-up designer.  A veteran actress, she has performed in over 40 community theater productions. Recently, she was Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street (NYA Winner, ariZoni Nom.), Ina Tortunesky in John Lennon and Me (ariZoni Nom.), and Dorothy Quimby in Ramona Quimby (ariZoni Nom.), all at Spotlight Youth Theatre. Kira also sings professionally with the Royal Renaissance Singers and is thankful for the continuous support she receives from her husband Jacob Funk.

Cheryl Tucker, M.M.: I am the Director of Choirs at Centennial High School and I am starting my 20th school year teaching.  I have been a member of Canto Vivo, a choral group based out of Mesa Community College, for 18 years.  I am married with one child and we love to travel and explore new things!

Brenda Goodenberger is an award winning singer and music director, with a repertoire that includes musical theatre, rock, pop, sacred music and opera. She has been featured in concert with the West Valley Symphony, West Valley Chorale, and the City of Glendale Symphonic Band, and has sung with numerous professional choirs, religious organizations and vocal groups in her 30+ years as a professional musician. Brenda is the proud mom of a plethora of singing kids, including Kira and Kendra. The three of them perform together in the singing group "The Gals" and often sing together for the UCSC congregation. In her time outside of church Brenda is an Office Administrator for Manship Builders and is also an active member of the National Association of Women in Construction.

Our chancel choir has approximately 20 to 30 singers depending on the time of year as we have snowbirds who go back "home" for the summer and holidays.  The choir sings from the first Sunday in October and finishes the end of May.  They usually perform cantatas on Palm Sunday and one Sunday during Advent.  The choir rehearses before church at 8:30 a.m. on Sundays, from the Sunday after Labor Day through May.  Everyone is welcome in the choir.  No audition is necessary.  Contact Alan Paulson for more information.
